DAY 9 高知/土佐 修行的道場 -4- Kochi Prefecture
We got ready to depart on 7:00 a.m., but in fact, we left Mr Okayama's house on about 8:40 a.m. because it rained so heavy. Thanks for Mr Okayama's kindness. It still drizzled and the wind blew strong under the grey sky. We went along the Route 278 not so far and arrived at the Port Tanezaki (種崎港), we planned to take a ferry across the Urado Bay (浦戶灣) to Port Nagahama (長濱), this is 5 mins trip and free voyage, people call it "The Henro Way on the Sea". This way was nice but it's just one hour for one voyage, not frequently at all. Sekkei-ji (#34 雲蹊寺) is pretty near to the Port Nagahama, the weather kept drizzling then my jean was wetter and wetter, I was uncomfortable and had no interested in admiring any temple then. Good news was the weather got better in afternoon, I was impressed on Kiyotaki-ji (#35 清瀧寺). Even we needed to leave our bicycles in the entrance of hill, I enjoyed walking in the hill way to Kiyotaki-ji (#35) very much. Here stands one beautiful statue in front of the Main Hall, and I also noticed that the Clock is like the duodecimal cycle of Chinese Era (地支) under the Main Hall Roof, it is extremely unique decoration. We kept following Route 39 to Shoryu-ji (#36 青龍寺), before we crossed the Usa Bridge (宇佐大橋), Mr Nakagawa suggested we'd better buy some food in a convenient store. This was good idea if you didn't intend eating the meals which offered by your lodging owner tonight. The route became more zigzag after we passed the Usa Bridge, here were many Onsen Minshuku along our route. I think here... Cape Ryu (龍岬) is a very popular sightseeing spot as well. Shoryu-ji (#36) is built behind the hill of Yokonami Peninsula (橫波半島) , covered by the forest, the moss and little brooks around this temple, brought me the feeling of strong damp. Actually, Shoryu-ji (#36) had another name in the past. When KUKAI studied and trained in China (Tang Dynasty), he also ever stayed at "Shoryu-ji" (#0 青龍寺) in China (Now in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province/ 陝西省西安). Therefore, KUKAI changed the temple name to Shoryu when he back Shikoku, in order to memorize his teacher in China. I was so sad that I lost my back reflector of bike around here, it just happened and I didn't know how do I lost. I couldn't find fit one afterward, so I rode in my Ohenro without back reflector, it resulted in I always worried so much when I entered the tunnels. The most difficult part of today was not visiting any temple, instead going to our tonight accommodation - Kokumin-shukusha Tosa. The reason why we booked based on the price (just ¥2700 per night) was so attractive, yet we didn't know Kokumin-Shukusha Tosa is located at the top of steep hills."Why this lodging builds in such a high hill?" I couldn't stop complaining while I pushed my bicycle with extra 10 KG belongings. Finally I saw this hotel, it certainly was the biggest challenge today. This hotel is Greece style, blue roof and white wall, you will see definitely spectacular landscape when you arrive at this hotel. I shall recommend here to my friend Tang for judging because she just been Greece recently. Kokumin-shukusha Tosa is well-known as their outside Onsen (Hot springs). You need to pay extra ¥300 and you can enjoy Onsen with the view of Tosa Bay. I didn't get used to take a bath in public one, so I still went to another bath in the second floor. Almost people went to the outside one, so I could enjoy the inside bath alone, it was perfect for me! ¥2700 is the cheapest room-type, male and female are separated from the room, but it is six-bed in one room. Maybe you will stay with strangers in the same room, in my opinion, if you don't mind here is an quite awesome accommodation to you!
